EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing

Do certain memories make you feel awful

  • NEGATIVE PHYSICAL SENSATIONS

    Sweating

    Heart racing

    Headaches

    Stomach aches

  • INTENSE EMOTIONS

    Uncontrolled crying

    Self-hatred

    Intense fear

    Believing you can't handle it

Typically, when you experience something upsetting, your brain will process through that event without any help.  But sometimes an event is so overwhelming or stressful that it

gets stuck.

When this happens, you can find yourself experiencing the emotions and thoughts related to that event over and over again.

EMDR allows you to process through those stuck memories so that you no longer experience discomfort.  EMDR will not erase the memory. Instead, the negative emotions and thoughts associated with that memory are

cleared out.

How does it work?

Eye movements are used to stimulate brain processing

  • We'll start by exploring what has led you to seek out therapy
  • Together we'll work to understand how past events may be influencing your present
  • You'll identify the goals that you have for yourself
  • The EMDR sessions will focus on the issues causing you the most discomfort so that you can feel better
